Rangers Diaries: Lions on a Giraffe Kill
In general, Lions will not chase a giraffe at full speed, but rather trot towards it and see how it reacts. If it flees into a thick, smooth or rocky area, due to its high centre of gravity it is easy for the startled herbivore to trip and fall. Once on the ground there is really no hope for it, as within seconds the Lions will be on it, and the chance of it getting back on it’s feet are next to nothing.
